With the Samsung Note7 now officially recalled and banned from return by plane, why is eBay still allowing the Note7 to be sold?
Did you know that you can still buy the Samsung Note7 online, despite the fact there have been dozens of cases of the device catching fire?
On a whim, and curious to see what would happen, I opened up eBay’s website, and typed in Note7 to see what would come up.
Lo and behold, I see that there are two Note7’s for sale right now, clearly from very irresponsible sellers.

The first Note7 is on sale from a user called ‘flaminmirage’ in Melbourne, Australia who wants AUD $1198 for the now recalled smartphone and who is offering ‘Free Standard Postage.’
It makes me wonder whether Australia’s postal service, Australia Post, would be interested in knowing that someone out there wants to send a Note7 by mail, putting mail centres, other people’s mail, the postie him or herself and the clueless buyer in mortal danger.
Then there’s the eBay listing from ‘mobileciti_estore’ who wants $1295.80 for the Note7, and who will ‘post to Australia.’
Again, are international shipping companies going to be aware that they would be shipping a Note7?
Thankfully, however, this second listing states “This item is out of stock”, so clearly mobileciti is simply derelict in not actually removing this item for sale.
That said, a search of eBay in the US finds yet more Note7’s for sale as you can see for yourself which defies logic and belief, but there you go.
Of course, to have a sale, we need some clueless person who actually wants to buy a Note7 despite the risks.
Naturally, the fact Note7’s are on sale on eBay made me wonder whether anyone in Australia was selling a Note7 on Gumtree, which is owned by eBay.
Turns out there are none for sale there, but a brave person called ‘Richard’ who has been a ‘Gummie since 2014’ states in his ‘wanted’ ad that he’ll pay $550 cash for the Note7.
However, this clever Dick states in the description: “Samsung will stop producing them due to them exploding so All note 7 accepted cash paid of 600 for every samsung galaxy note 7 (sic).”
So, there you go. You can have a TWO global recalls for devices that are exploding in people’s cars, homes, pockets and schools, and you still have numbskulls wanting to sell them and wanting to buy them.
Perhaps this is The Darwin Awards at work and eBay should do nothing at all.
