Apple 2016 'shopping event' is this Friday

It's that time of year: Apple's pre-Christmas "one-day shopping event" is happening again this Friday.

Apple's customary seasonal shopping event has been set down for Friday 25 November 2016.

Also according to custom, the company is keeping its cards close to its chest in terms of what will be on offer.

All the announcement reveals is that shipping will be free (though all the items we looked at in the online store this afternoon - from an iPhone case to a MacBook Pro - came with free shipping anyway) and that Apple Stores will be open longer than usual.

{loadposition stephen08}Though the suggestion that we should "Find a nearby Apple Store and learn about extended opening hours" isn't very helpful - you really need to know the hours before you visit so you can be sure the store isn't closed when you arrive.

The event aligns with Black Friday in the US - the day after Thanksgiving when retailers traditionally offer big savings.

In recent years this has spread to some other countries even though the date has no special significance.

That said, the advice from some 'deal' sites is "anywhere but Apple" thanks to the company's limited and modest discounting in recent years.

According to Forbes, even in the US, "just like last year, Apple isn’t playing ball."

But don't let that stop you checking out what Apple has on offer this Friday - you never know when a good deal will pop up!
