Screen real estate is a key driver not only in the office and design industries but now for gamers who want a more immersive experience. LG’s new 34”, 21:9 ratio, curved screen has been designed for gamers. But who wants them to have all the fun?
The LG 34UC79G is top draw kit – a 21:9, 2560 x 1080, IPS screen with 250 cd/m2 brightness and 1000:1 contrast. It achieves 5ms GTG response, 1ms Motion Blur Reduction, and 178° field of view. It has AMD Freesync 144Mhz screen refresh. Add to that something called Dynamic Action Sync (no judder or tear), Crosshair mode, and Black Stabiliser, and it measures up to precision gaming standards.
It has game modes for FPS (first person shooter) for day or night, and RTS (real-time strategy) for games including Starcraft2, Warcraft, and League of Legends. An increasing number of games now support 21:9 screen ratios.
Russ Prendergast, Marketing Manager for LG Electronics Australia, said, “The latest video games are hugely sophisticated, with emphasis placed on the rendering speed and quality of graphics. LG continues to innovate for the customer, and we’re thrilled we can meet the demands of today’s gaming audience with the new UltraWide monitor.”

LG sponsored eSports team Dire Wolves were amongst the first to adopt this new device which was shown at PAX Australia – a major global gaming event held in Melbourne earlier in November.
I increasingly see amazing kit, often at extraordinary prices, invading that scene. I spoke to some hard-core gamers about larger screens, and without exception they wanted more real estate working. The reason – not just larger images but better shadow definition and colour than most PC monitors can give. A big plus for them is that it replaces multiple smaller monitors – no bezels to get in the way.
