One side says there will be no new Surface Pro mobile devices and no new Surface Phone, but the other side says there will be.
Paul Thurrott, the well known Windows blogger with deep access inside Microsoft, has made some predictions on Microsoft’s October 26 Windows 10 event that contradict iTWire’s own Microsoft watcher.
At Thurrott’s blog, he states there will be:
- No Surface Pro 5 or Surface Book 2
- No Surface Phone
- No Microsoft Band 3 (unsurprising since Microsoft has discontinued the Band 2)
- New Surface hardware in the form of an iMac-like All-in-One PC, with touch screen and stylus
- Windows 10 news on the OS and new features, Windows 10 devices from other makers, news about the XBox One and Hololens.

iTWire’s Windows and all-things-Microsoft writer is Ray Shaw, who has his own predictions on the October 26 event that you can read here.
Shaw believes we will see the following things launched:
- Surface Book 2 using Intel 7th generation Kaby Lake;
- Surface Pro 5 – ditto;
- Surface All-in-one – ditto;
- HoloLens update;
- Features of the Windows 10 Redstone 2 update for Q2, 2017; and
- And the flag waving software stuff.
There is clear agreement on an all-in-one Windows 10 iMac-style PC, as well as agreement on Hololens and Windows 10 news.
But there is stark disagreement over whether we will see new models of the Surface Book, Surface Pro and an all new Surface Phone.
ArsTechnica also states "we're not holding our breath for new Surfaces."
Meanwhile, Engadget asks "perhaps we're in for some Surface news?", which could mean a Surface Phone rather than new models of existing Surface devices.
