VIDEO Interview: Malwarebytes in Australia, new proactive Mac version launches

Malwarebytes open its Australian office last October, targeting both business and consumer customers, and we spoke to its Regional Director Jim Cook about ransomware, Macs and more.

Earlier this week, Malwarebytes launched its global report on ransomware and malware, with one of the headline findings being that ransomware attacks caused 22% of small and medium-sized businesses in seven countries, including Australia, to pack up for good, which iTWire covered here.

The Australian part of the report can be read here (PDF link), while the US report is here.

Malwarebytes is the go-to anti-malware software for PCs and Macs, and I wholeheartedly recommend its free and especially paid versions to everyone I know, whether they’re running free or commercial Internet security software.

Indeed, Malwarebytes seems to run flawlessly alongside the traditional Internet security suites, and given those suites all utilise a blended series of protective measures, adding Malwarebytes’ own layers of protection alongside makes good sense to me.

This is especially so given that traditional security suites don’t seem to be as proactive in battling malware as Malwarebytes.

Also of note is this week’s launch of a proactive, paid version of Malwarebytes for the Mac - previously there was only a free reactive version, and while Mac malware is still a tiny speck compared to the Niagara Falls-like deluge of malware that affects and infects Windows platforms, it doesn’t hurt to keep your Mac proactively protected, too, now that more Mac malware does actually exist.

You can find out more about the Windows versions of Malwarebytes here, and the Mac versions here.

So, in my video interview with Malwarebytes’ Australian regional director, Jim Cook, (embedded below), I introduce him and ask about Malwarebytes’ arrival on Australian shores. We talk about Malwarebytes and its paid, proactive mode and the new Mac version.

We discuss more on the ransomware report that you can read about in the links at the start of this article, and talk about how Malwarebytes helps to specifically protect you against ransomware.

We talk about the future of malware, great advice that Jim has received in his life to get him to where he is today, and his final message for viewers and readers.

After that is the new Malwarebytes for Mac corporate video.

Here's my video interview with Malwarebytes' Jim Cook:
