Samsung recalls more than 50,000 Note7s in Australia

Samsung Australia has announced the recall of 51,060 Galaxy Note7 smartphones which have been sold in the country since launch on 19 August.

The recall follows the company's acknowledgement of an issue with the battery which led to some devices exploding.

The Australian arm has asked all buyers of the device to power it off and return to it the dealer from whom it was purchased, and use an alternative device as an interim measure.

It said those who had bought the Note7 were entitled to a replacement and also a courtesy device until the replacement arrived.

Courtesy devices will become available from Wednesday (7 September).

Richard Fink, vice-president IT and mobile at Samsung Australia said: "The safety and ongoing satisfaction of our customers is our top priority.

"We know our Galaxy Note7 customers are our most loyal customers and we are taking a proactive approach to support them."
