Experienced telecommunications executive and Optus co-founder Terry Winters has been appointed chairman of Tasmanian company and digital services provider TasmaNet as it embarks on its next phase of growth with its five-year expansion plan.
Winters, who led the team that created Optus and remained on the Optus Board until 1996, is currently chairman of ASX-listed Future Fibre Technologies, Converge International and Intelledox, and until recently, was chairman of Seeing Machines.
He also serves as a director of Redflex Holdings, Australian Home Care Services (AHCS) and Many Rivers Microfinance Li and led the team that created Optus and remained on the Optus Board until 1996.
TasmaNet has also appointed Martin Rees, a KPMG partner for 16 years and managing partner of the firm’s Launceston office for 12 years, as its new vice chairman.

Harris said that already TasmaNet has expanded into Queensland, where the company’s technology underpins Vastnet NBN’s broadband roll-out in Toowoomba.
The new board appointments follow TasmaNet’s announcement last week that it is building Tasmania’s IoT network in partnership with Internet of Things and communications services vendor Thinxtra.
