Telnyx partners with Equinix on next generation VoIP services expansion

VoIP wholesale service provider Telnyx has partnered with global data centre operator Equinix to expand Telnyx’s high-performance platform to Europe and Asia.

Ian Reither, co-founder and chief operating officer, Telnyx, says that by deploying an Interconnection Oriented Architecture (IOA) with Equinix Performance Hub at the core, Telnyx is able to rapidly expand its network into Europe and Asia, while dramatically improving overall network performance by more than 60%.

As a part of this deployment, Telnyx is adding Performance Hub nodes in Equinix London and Hong Kong International Business Exchange (IBX) data centres.

“The Equinix Interconnection Oriented Architecture strategy coupled with Telnyx’s innovative Telephony Engine has improved the performance of our service by more than 60%. The benefits to our customers are clear: superior call quality, advanced features, fast setup, self-control and scalable service,” Reither says.

Telnyx says its cost-effective platform for VoIP services has grown significantly across North America, and now customers have turned to Telnyx to provide this service at a global scale.

“While VoIP can be a convenient and cost-effective communications strategy, in order for it to be truly beneficial, it must meet strict Quality of Service (QoS) requirements.  By working with Equinix and deploying TE across a global Equinix Performance Hub, Telnyx was able to meet the demands of its customers while reducing average transmission latency by 16% and average network ‘jitter’ by 62%,” the company says in a statement announcing the partnership.

As part of the partnership, Telnyx worked with Equinix to establish a five-node network connecting its three existing Performance Hub deployments in Chicago, Washington DC and Silicon Valley to those in London and Hong Kong.

Bill Long, vice-president of interconnection solutions, Equinix, says that “providing high quality and feature-rich VoIP solutions that scale globally requires connections to a deep ecosystem of voice and data networks”.

“At Equinix, our goal is to provide the interconnections necessary to allow Telnyx, and all of our customers, to succeed in the digital economy. The improvements in call quality that Telnyx was able to gain are a great example of the value of moving to an Interconnection Oriented Architecture at Equinix.”
