Panasonic has announced a new range of 2017 cameras and recorders to be powered by its next-generation i-PRO® Extreme surveillance technology platform.
i-PRO Extreme offers native end-to-end H.265 video, maximal performance and cost-effectiveness, and protecting against cyber-security.
This platform will be rolled out across a new line of Panasonic cameras, recorders and video management software (VMS) in 2017 and delivers advancements in image quality, data compression, security, reliability and embedded intelligence.
Panasonic states a major driver for i-PRO Extreme in Australia was an increasing need for companies to store significantly more data at a lower cost, and to reduce bandwidth requirements.
In fact, Panasonic's research indicates accumulated data will grow to 44 trillion gigabytes by the year 2020, creating global pressure to find effective solutions.
Consequently, i-PRO Extreme seeks to get a head-start by reducing streaming and storage by approximately 50% over the H.264 industry standard.
Another key feature of i-PRO Extreme is cyber-security protection. The uptake of Internet of things (IoT) technology has similarly led to an increase in Internet-facing unsecured and unpatched devices, which are easily exploitable. Even if not exploited, an insecure online video camera can itself lead to physical theft and vandalism. Again, Panasonic's research indicates Australian cities could face a $14 billion damage bill over the next decade from cyber-security related events.
To mitigate, the Panasonic i-PRO Extreme range of cameras uses a multi-layered authentication model which includes PC-level IP data security via Panasonic Secure Communication Technology and Symantec device certificates.

Additional features of i-PRO Extreme cameras are:
1. intelligent imaging control, delivering outstanding low-light (0.0008 to 0.015 lux) performance including colour night vision
2. Intelligent Auto (iA) mode, monitoring scene dynamics and motion adjust key camera settings in real-time, optimising captured images and reducing distortion on moving objects
3. 144dB Enhanced Super Dynamic Range performance, delivering balanced scene exposure in highly dynamic and extreme-backlit lighting environments
4. Extreme H.265 compression, to meet rising data storage challenges
5. Smart face detection technology, encoding those regions at the highest quality for clear identification
6. High reliability, low failure rates, and redundancy, including automatic failover allows two recorders to run in tandem
Devices which will include i-PRO Extreme include the Panasonic WJ-NX400 secure system recorder, and Panasonic will also be releasing the WV-ASM300 secure video management software for Windows.
