Virtual “Realty” – all over, up, down, and around the house

Commercial uses of virtual reality (VR) are emerging daily as more smartphones become VR capable. But this is a case of Virtual “Realty” as Metricon adapts VR for its 90 different home designs.

Leading Aussie home builder, Metricon will launch VR with the introduction of take-home Google Cardboard style VR headsets. It's interactive customer experiences show prospective owners over 90 different Metricon designs. Free headsets will be available to potential customers visiting a display home from Friday, February 3.

The 3D imagery is generated by Phoria, and allows customers to browse virtual display homes using a compatible iOS or Android smartphone and Metricon app.

National Marketing Services Manager at Metricon, Kelly Millar said, “Selecting a new home is one of the biggest emotional and financial decisions a family can make. The virtual reality experience takes away some of that stress by allowing users to compare and contrast a wide cross section of our stunning home designs to find the perfect style for their taste and lifestyle.

In January 2015, Metricon introduced the next generation of virtual tours of its various home designs across its website. The digital experience allowed browsers to view homes from ‘bird’s eye’ and ‘dollhouse’ perspectives, and virtually tour the home at their leisure as if they were inside.

In late 2015, Virtual Reality headsets were first launched in Metricon’s Wonthaggi display centre, providing a dedicated area for visitors to experience various home designs virtually, ideal for customers wanting to view a display home outside their local area.

Co-Founder of Phoria, Steven Kounnas, said the virtual reality experience is one that is ready for the mass market. “Consumers are hungry for experiences that are hands on and truly immersive, and VR ticks all the boxes. We’re excited to be working alongside Metricon to roll out the tech on such a large scale.”
