VIDEO Interview: Foxtel Kids app launches, includes video downloads

Foxtel has added value to its service with its new ‘Kids’ app, delivering a ‘safe place to stream and download favourite shows on demand and ad-free.’

Foxtel has announced the launch of a new app designed with kids and families in mind, dubbed the Foxtel Kids app.

Conveniently, the app has arrived ‘just in time for the summer holidays and provides a safe way for kids to stream their favourite programs, on-demand and ad-free, anytime.’

When the app was demonstrated to me a couple of weeks ago, it was just before Netflix announced it was making downloads of selected content on its app possible, which is something you’ll see reflected in the video interview and demonstration of the Kids app that you’ll see embedded below.

What that means is that Netflix had not yet announced downloadable content was available when the video was filmed - again, as you’ll see us talking about in the video.

Naturally, the benefit of being able to download video content, especially that for kids, means offline viewing of content for a 31 day period, something that’s clearly ‘ideal for long drives, flights or holidays spent away from internet connections.’

Designed and developed in Australia, the Foxtel Kids app helps parents deal with some of the challenges that come with youngsters watching TV, including controlling screen time, managing what they watch and maintaining limits on data usage.

We are told that ‘parents are able to set a limit on the time spent watching the app and can select classifications between G and PG ratings for age appropriate viewing. The Foxtel Kids app also offers uninterrupted ad-free viewing making it a safe and secure place for kids to enjoy the best in kids’ content Foxtel has to offer.’

As you can see from the video, the app is extremely easy to use and is very kid - and parent - friendly.

Deanne Weir, Foxtel’s Managing Director of Content Aggregation and Wholesale, said, “We’re delighted to bring our new Foxtel Kids app to Australian kids and families. After taking on board some great customer feedback coupled with our own research, we’ve designed what we think is the best app to keep kids entertained and parents informed; and, with the Christmas holidays just a few weeks away, it couldn’t come at a better time.”

Here’s the video of the demonstration that Foxtel gave me a couple of weeks ago, which included the offer of a username and password to trial the service for a limited time.

The Foxtel Kids app also features a kid friendly design so young people are able to navigate to their favourite shows easily. The app is filled with a host of constantly updated content, to stream or download, from all of the major kids brands including, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, CBeebies, Discovery Kids, Cartoon Network and Boomerang, so they can catch up on their favourite episodes of Hey Duggee, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teen Titans Go!, Star Wars Rebels, Adventure Time, Paw Patrol and more.

The Foxtel Kids app is available for download from the App Store and Google Play, and ‘is available to Foxtel and Foxtel Play customers, who subscribe to the Foxtel Kids pack, at no extra charge. The app can be registered to five devices and can be used simultaneously by two users. Downloaded programs are available to view for 31 days.’
