Huawei back in the scrum to boost brand, product awareness

Chinese ICT giant Huawei’s continued push to raise its brand awareness in the Australian market has been boosted by the extension of the major sponsorship of the Australian National Rugby League team the Canberra Raiders until the end of the 2019 season.

Huawei first signed on as the major sponsor of the Raiders in 2012 and, at the time, it was the company’s first professional sporting sponsorship anywhere in the world.

Huawei Australia Chairman John Lord AM says the partnership between the Huawei and the NRL has been a great success.

“Huawei and the Canberra Raiders have built a solid and successful partnership over the past five years,” Lord said.

“The Raiders sponsorship helps us to promote the leading innovation in our smartphones, tablets and mobile broadband devices.”

Lord said at the end of 2019 the major sponsorship would stretch to 8 years, making Huawei the longest serving major sponsor in the history of the Canberra Raiders.

“As long term sponsor we have been able to work with the Raiders to support mutual community activities like the Tour de Cure, Bowel Cancer Australia and the Ricky Stuart Foundation.”

Lord said Huawei was delighted with the performance of the team in 2016 wished them every success in 2016 and beyond. “We approached the Raiders to extend our sponsorships in May so it’s great to see the team doing so well this year and showing great potential for sustained success.”

Canberra Raiders CEO Don Furner said the club was proud to be associated with a “committed and rapidly rising international organisation”.

“The Raiders are extremely proud to announce Huawei will be remaining with the Raiders for a further three seasons and eight seasons in total,” Furner said.

“This is great news for our members and fans as we head into the finals series.”
