As the cyberwar heats up, more cyber-security vendors are finding local support for Australia and New Zealand is vital.
Trend Micro officially opened its new Australia and New Zealand headquarters in Sydney today [Tuesday 15 November 2016]. Damon Rees, the NSW Government’s chief information, and digital officer, joined Dhanya Thakkar, Trend Micro’s managing director and VP for Asia Pacific.
Rees said, “NSW is at the forefront of ICT and digital capability in Australia. A big part of our success is the strong community of local partners whose expertise, the culture of innovation and appetite for new talent continues to drive growth. Trend Micro’s expansion highlights the opportunities and talent that NSW has to offer technology companies.”

The past two years have seen Trend Micro’s ANZ operations grow rapidly, doubling sales revenue, and the size of offices in Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Perth and Auckland, with teams working across all regions of Australia and New Zealand.
This in line with customer growth across the region and an expansion of Trend Micro’s partner program seeing the number of new channel partners double in the past two years.
Local employees number have increased 20% percent in the past two years – there are more than 80 with plans to reach 100 by the end of the year. It anticipates doubling its employees again over the next three to five years.
The new HQ is at Level 15, 1 Pacific Highway in North Sydney. It has offices, a training suite, and demo lab space which will also give the company space to grow in the future. The team required more space and a fresh, collaborative office to help support innovation and further expansion in the region.
“This past year has been pivotal for many Trend Micro customers who are navigating digital transformation. We are seeing significant momentum toward cloud-based and cloud-enabled solutions and are confident we can cement our market leadership position in server security,” said Thakkar.
Trend Micro has held the #1 market share in server security for physical, virtual, cloud and hybrid environments since 2009. It has partnerships and solutions available across the top three cloud vendors - AWS, Azure, and vCloud Air.
“Trend Micro has continued to develop and deliver innovative security that is smart, simple to use and fits the way organisations operate in the cloud. Our growth in this area is also a direct result of expanding our relationships with cloud providers to extend customers’ security capabilities” he said.
A primary goal in the year ahead is addressing the challenge of new threats appearing as rapidly as technology changes. The company recently introduced XGen endpoint security which adds machine learning to a blend of threat defence techniques to intelligently apply the right technology at the right time, resulting in more effective and efficient protection against a full range of threats.
