The owner of a Samsung Galaxy Note7 who turned it in and obtained a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge in exchange appears to be dogged by bad luck: the replacement phone exploded while it was charging.
The website PhoneArena, that caters to mobile users, said this had been experienced by a subscriber of a big US wireless carrier.
This is not the first case of a S7 Edge exploding, the website said, pointing to the case of an Ohio construction worker who had sued Samsung after an S7 Edge exploded in his pants.
A third case cited by PhoneArena was that of a Galaxy S7 Edge that exploded in the middle of the night while being charged. In all three cases, the original charger was being used.
{loadposition sam08}The tech website Computerworld cited yet another case, that of a Canadian, Elisha Loewen, whose S7 Edge burst into flames while he was driving.
"Then I noticed smoke coming from my console under my radio where I keep my phone. I picked it up and it was extremely hot, then threw it out the car window. I pulled over and covered it in snow to snuff the flame," Loewen wrote.
The website said Samsung had asked for pictures of Loewen's phone; he posted four and wrote: "I just want a refund so I can buy a phone that's not a Samsung."
Samsung was forced to halt production of its Note7 smartphone earlier this month after numerous cases of devices exploding were reported.
