Sky and Space Global, GomSpace partner on nano-satellite assembly

Gomspace 3D 'Flat' nano-satellite assembly

Sky and Space Global is partnering with Denmark’s GomSpace to assemble its three initial nano-satellites and get them ready for launch in the first half of next year.

The Australian-listed Sky and Space Global (ASX:SAS) is constructing a communications infrastructure based on nano-satellite technology and developing highly complex and sophisticated software systems that will deploy, maintain orbit control and handle communication code between each of the nano-satellites to give a global coverage.

The three nano-satellites – known as the “3 Diamonds” - are currently being assembled at GomSpace’s clean rooms at Aalborg, Denmark.

Sky and Space Global completed an oversubscribed $4.5 million fund raising in April this year, and has said it is fully funded to the Q2 2017 launch of its “3 Diamonds” pilot network with the Indian Space Research Organisation.

{loadposition peter}Announcement of the satellite assembly comes as Sky & Space Global receives formal approval from the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence (MOD) for the use of the MOD’s UHF frequency, which the company says represents technical validation of its narrowband communications platform offering.

Sky & Space Global has been approved by the MOD to use the frequency until the end of 2019, with the possibility to extend the timeframe.
