Alibaba Cloud opened the doors at its first data centre in Indonesia last week, to meet what it says are the the growing digital transformation in the country.
The cloud computing arm of the Alibaba Group said the data centre is the first global public cloud platform in the country that will provide a local choice for Indonesian businesses, particularly SMEs and start-ups.
A statement from the company said the data centre aimed to meet the needs of enterprises across a range of industries including e-commerce, media, fintech, gaming, logistics, transportation and manufacturing.
The centre said “MaxCompute”, a big data platform that allows users to store and process terabytes or petabytes of structural data would bring sophisticated data intelligence services such as data processing, analytics and machine learning to Indonesian businesses, empowering data-driven innovation and business transformation.

The launch of the data centre is part of Alibaba Cloud’s ongoing commitment to support Indonesia's initiative to create 1000 start-ups by 2020.
