The NSW government's GovDC marketplace for ICT procurement is now the primary data centre provider for three leading education institutions, with more tertiary education facilities assessing the market and realising the value and benefits of the program.
The University of New South Wales (UNSW), University of New England (UNE) and Catholic Education Network (CEnet) are the latest education institutions to enter the program following a period of market testing.
According to Simon Geraghty, Executive Director Government Technology Platforms, the growing interest from education institutions is a sign of trust in the GovDC program.
“GovDC is becoming the preferred data centre provider for not just NSW Government agencies, but also universities and tertiary education institutions.

In early 2017 UNSW decided to relocate its core on-campus data centre services to a commercially operated co-location facility.
The key drivers for the move were to improve the capability of data centre services and free up valuable on-campus accommodation.
UNSW undertook an extensive procurement process in mid-2017 to identify and select a suitable data centre operator and says GovDC was able to demonstrate the best combination of data centre capability and value for money.
UNSW is currently in the process of relocating its primary on-campus data centres to the GovDC Silverwater facilities, expected to be complete in the first half of 2018.
