Dr Ziggy Switkowski has been reappointed as chairman of NBN Co and a non-executive director of the board for three more years.
He has previously served as chief executive of both Telstra and Optus.
In a joint media release, Communications Minister Mitch Fifield and Finance Minister Matthias Cormann said Switkowski had done an outstanding job as chairman thus far.
"Along with Bill Morrow and the executive team, the board has transformed the company and achieved a remarkable rate of growth in the rollout," the ministers said.
{loadposition sam08}They said today the NBN was available at more than 3.1 million addresses with more than 1.3 million people enjoying the benefits of high-speed broadband.
They congratulated Switkowski on his reappointment and looked forward to him leading the board as it guided the project to completion by 2020.
Switkowski's reappointment takes effect from 3 October.
Earlier this year, Switkowksi caused controversy when he commented on the NBN's decision to ask the AFP to raid Labor Party offices over document leaks that led to stories in the media about the NBN project not being on track.
He was accused of having breached caretaker conventions as the raids took place during the federal election campaign.
