Medical software and information provider MedicalDirector has cut a deal with digital health company Healthshare to list integrated providers in its cloud-based solution, Helix, by June this year.
The partnership aims to streamline administration of managing patient referrals and help general practitioners spend more of their time on patient consultations.
MedicalDirector, an Australian firm that makes software for healthcare professionals, has about 50% of Australian marketshare for GPs.
Its software lets doctors and GP managers handle patient health records; billing appointment scheduling; specialist referral forms; up-to-date medicine information; population health trends; and real-time health insights.
{loadposition sam08}It has a standalone software called MedicalDirector Clinical and a cloud-based version known as Helix.
The latter was the first cloud-based clinical and practice management solution developed for Australia. It runs on Microsoft's cloud platform, Azure.
As a result of the deal, Helix subscribers will be able to access information in Healthshare’s Referrals directory, which will become the main specialist address book for GPs writing referrals inside Helix.
The directory has been available as a sidebar widget inside MedicalDirector Clinical since 2014.
Start-up Healthshare provides GP and specialist directories and referral tools for healthcare providers, giving them information on specialists’ areas of interest; their hospital affiliations; practice locations; and arrangements with health insurers.
Such tools enable doctors to refer patients to specialists with a greater degree of accuracy.
Commenting on the tie-up, Sarah Pinchbeck, general manager, Marketplace, MedicalDirector, said: “We have had terrific feedback from our GP users about the quality and search functionality of Healthshare’s Referrals widget, and we are thrilled to offer these features in a tightly integrated solution inside Helix.”
“For practice administration staff, using Healthshare could also reduce workload as they may no longer need to maintain their own healthcare provider address book."
Healthshare chief executive Rami Weiss, said, “We have been a trusted partner of MedicalDirector since 2014 and are continually seeking to collaborate on new innovations that can improve clinical workflows for its GPs and practice staff."
