The community Linux distribution openSUSE Leap has released a new beta, version 42.2.2, which includes the first long-term support version of KDE's Plasma desktop.
The version of Plasma included, 5.7.95, is also in beta. Version 5.8 will be in the final release of the 42.2 openSUSE release.
Both KDE and openSUSE adjusted their release schedules a bit to be able to include Plasma 5.8 in the final 42.2 openSUSE release.
The Plasma beta is only in English at the moment. Translations for the main desktop and several openSUSE-specific components are needed before the stable release.
{loadposition sam08}Leap is a community-enterprise distribution that focuses on stability. It has hundreds of SUSE Linux Enterprise Service Pack 2 packages and thousands of community-built packages.
The distribution gives developers and organisations the ability to bridge to the faster release cycles of openSUSE Tumbleweed — which is a rolling release — or to a more long-term support enterprise solution with SUSE's enterprise distribution.
