If you’re lucky enough to have an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus and have experienced issues with your Lightning EarPod headphones, Apple has fixed it in iOS 10.0.2.
If you go to Settings, then General, then Software Update, you’ll see a new version of iOS 10 is ready for you to download - iOS 10.0.2.
Apple says ‘this version fixes bugs and improves the stability of your iPhone or iPad.’
Its update notification tells us that the update:
- Addresses an issue that could prevent headphone audio controls from temporarily not working, and
- Fixes an issue that caused Photos to quit for some users when turning on iCloud Photo Library.

If you haven’t yet updated to iOS 10, this update would be delivered to you as the full iOS 10 operating system, with all of the security updates that were included, and all the cool features that iOS 10 contains.
If you haven’t yet updated, you are naturally encouraged to do so, but only after first ensuring you have made a backup of your iOS device to your computer and/or to iCloud.
Those who still bother to jailbreak their iOS devices and are still living in iOS 9.x are likely well aware that any update to the latest iOS version removes any jailbreaking.
In essence, the major reason for this update, beyond iPhoto issues, is to fix that Lightning audio EarPod issue, so whether that has or hasn’t been causing you issues, the latest update is here and as always it is worth updating.
