Amaysim's commercial director of broadband, Rob Appel, has responded to NBN Co's pricing paper with some commentary of his own.
If there's one thing that people don't like about the NBN, besides its woeful speeds, it's the woeful pricing that RSPs (retail service providers) have to put up with to simply deliver a service to consumers.
There has been a lot of complaint about the NBN, its speeds, its pricing, its management team, its direction and pretty much every single thing about it, right down to expensive coffee machines percolating away thanks to the public purse.
So, when NBN Co does something like make actual changes, and ones that people finally think are good ideas, then we get even more commentary out there, not just from consumers, but executives from RSPs, too.
{loadposition alex08}The latest such commentary comes from Amaysim's "commercial director of broadband", or "broadband boss" as I so named him in the headline, Rob Appel, whose appellation is apt.
Appel said: "We think it’s a great step in the right direction to enhance customer experience and we are excited to see what other changes NBN Co will introduce in the future. In international comparison, Australians pay more for lower speeds. The changes announced by NBN Co don’t necessarily lower the price for consumers.
"What it does is give RSPs the opportunity to provide a better service by increasing bandwidth to each customer. Ultimately though, we would like to see a model without CVC charges. That’s the only way to get around congestion issues because it removes the economic incentive to under-provision capacity.
"We are looking forward to continuing to work with NBN Co and the industry to deliver a great broadband network that Australians deserve.”
So, let us hope we all end up paying less and getting more. I just wonder if Appel is an Apple user, or if he uses an Android.
Either way, may the force of better pricing be with us all, because better pricing should be everyone's first order, and is a starry price war we all want to win.

My infamous NBN Man is below, whom I've given an Amaysim smile that, upon reflection, reminds me a little of Batman's The Joker, although that wasn't the intention. That said, it looks fun, so here it is:
