The clever data counters at Kogan Mobile have responded to various telco moves by adding yet more data to some of its plans, all in an attempt to cleverly counter competing offers with offers of its own.
Kogan Mobile has pointed to stats showing 43% of Australians regularly exceeding the data caps on their mobile plans, and telcos reaping in $300m a year in excess data charges as a result.
Because of this, the telco says "it’s more important than ever for Aussies to reassess their mobile plans" to ensure:
- They can actively monitor their data usage, without having to pay exorbitant excess data charges, and
- Their current plan meets their data requirements now, and into the future
- Too often telcos offer mediocre data allowances, with hefty excess data fees paid per gigabyte. Also, when most telcos finally get around to updating their plans to increase data allowances, it’s typically only for new customers — they don’t look after their existing customers as well as they should.
{loadposition alex08}Now, while Kogan Mobile doesn't mention competitive moves from companies like Boost, or Amaysim, we can certainly imagine that the price reductions and data additions seen elsewhere have had an impact, and with Kogan a champion of fierce competition, it's no surprise, to me at least, to see the moves Kogan has made.
Kogan Mobile characterises the moves by first noting its "last round of data increases in early September," with its new move "further increasing the data allowances on its plans" - and not just for new customers, but all existing customers on the relevant plans, too.
The company believes the move "should be some greatly appreciated news, in the lead up to the Christmas period, when most families need to watch their wallets."
The changes are:
- Small plan now includes 2GB of data (up from 1.5GB)
- Large plan now includes 16GB of data (up from 11GB)
- Extra Large plan now includes 23GB of data (up from 16GB)
