Connecting to the national broadband network has been an overwhelmingly negative experience for consumers, the Australian Greens NBN spokesman Senator Jordon Steele-John claims.
Senator Steele-John (below, right) entered parliament recently as a replacement when two Greens senators had to quit due to their dual citizenship issues.
As anyone not living under a rock is aware, the rollout of the NBN has been dogged by complaints, with the latest problem faced by NBN Co, the company rolling out the network, being an issue with the HFC network.
This has forced it to put off connecting customers on the network for anything from six to nine months.
{loadposition sam08}Senator Steele-John said: “In the last few weeks I've already been inundated with complaints from frustrated Australians who have not had the NBN experience they were promised by this government."
He said Queensland Liberal Senator James McGrath’s recent suggestion that the NBN under a government led by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull was capable of delivering speeds up to 100Mbps and would be capable of delivering 1Gbps was "fabricated nonsense".
“Access to fast, secure and stable Internet is a human right, and fibre-to-the-premises technology is the only long-term solution to meet Australia’s current and future broadband needs," Senator Steele-John said.
“This government is letting down millions of Australians with their NBN compromise and the Greens will continue to champion access to a network that meets our current and future digital needs.”
