A glitch that sees the Lightning-connected EarPod headphones with iPhone 7 models stop working has been acknowledge by Apple and will be fixed.
If you’ve got an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus, and have been using the Lightning-port connectable included wired EarPod headphone that came in the box, you might have noticed some unusual behaviour.
Business Insider explained the problem as occurring ‘after you’ve left the EarPods plugged into the iPhone 7’s Lightning port for a few minutes. Audio continues to play, but the volume control dongle stops working, meaning you can’t adjust the volume, activate Siri, or answer calls.’
Twitter users have also noticed the same problem.
The problem appears intermittent, and the workaround fix is to unplug the headphones and plug them back in again.

An Apple spokesperson told Business Insider ‘the problem will be fixed in a future update.’
How such a problem slips through what must be incredibly extensive testing over at Apple is unclear, but glitches happen and software updates can fix it.
After all, at least EarPods are exploding in your ears, or anything like that.
BGR has a list of other iPhone 7 issues.
These include:
- the so-called Hissgate issue,
- a ‘no service’ bug that sees some users who have turned their phone to plane mode off and on again needing to turn their phone off, remove the SIM, re-insert the SIM and turn the phone back on again
- shorter than expected Battery Life during the first day or two but which clears up thereafter (BGR’s explanation on why is here.)
- and Jet Black iPhone 7 models scratching more easily than other iPhone colours.
BGR also lists the missing 3.5 headphone socket, the new home button and the changed screen unlock behaviour as ‘issues’ but, to be frank, they aren’t.
These last three things are simply changes to the way things were before, however the other issues above are issues that Apple is investigating or fixing.
