Cyber security firm Macquarie Government has appointed experienced technologist Bart Thomas as general manager, government cloud, as the company looks to further grow its built-for-government cloud business.
The company, which is part of the ASX listed Macquarie Telecom Group (ASX: MAQ), says Thomas will play a key leadership role in its “rapidly growing” cloud business.
The Canberra-born Thomas began his career in the technology management groups of Federal Government agencies, based in both Canberra and Sydney, before moving to the private sector in Australia and the UK.
He was most recently the CEO of Anchor Hosting based in Sydney.

“The chance to join Macquarie Government represents an opportunity too good to refuse,” Thomas said. The combination of attributes that Macquarie Government has pulled together in its business is completely unique in the government cloud market, and is incredibly exciting,” Thomas said.
“Macquarie Government has the data centres, infrastructure and customer support only a scale provider can maintain, baked in security culture, is proudly Australian owned, and has an obsessive focus on customer satisfaction.
“It has all these solid scale advantages while still having the flexibility to deeply understand and respond to the needs of Australian Government customers.
“Add to that the certification by the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) of the cloud platforms as meeting Unclassified/DLM and Protected status for the purpose of storing and managing Government data, and the business represents something very special.”
