It’s PAXAUS time again. The Penny Arcade Expo travels to the Southern Hemisphere once a year - Melbourne loves this celebration of geekdom.
Here are some shots before the doors were flung open at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre for the PAXAUS 2017 everything geeky convention today.
{loadposition mike08} We wandered the floor, mainly in the electronic entertainment half of the convention. It continues to be the case that PAX showcases and lauds the independent developers making their way through the challenges of getting their wares shown.
For us, some of the highlights were:
The “Souls Like” Sinner where a player begins as the most powerful they can be, and level DOWN as they progress, fighting bosses along the way.
Knuckle Sandwich a game by Andrew Brophy which is about his own life, a Role Play Life in fact laced with comedy and whimsical game-play
West of Loathing brings line drawings to life in a Western themed turn based combat comedy romp.
Publisher Surprise Attack has an awesome presence at PAXAUS with a slew of interesting titles. Genesis Noir is impossible to explain beyond being a story of lost love and the Big Bang.
Invisible Hand is a thought provoking look at capitalism and the consequences of a life made up of manipulating market forces.
Surprise Attack is also supporting the rather fun and chaotic looking parenting simulator Think of The Children as well as the ten minute competitive multiplayer role-play game Dungeon League.
Other highlights that you should take a look at include; Regular Human Basketball, Party Golf (with it’s huge amount of variety and play modes), Witch Thief, Dead Static Drive and the very Melbourne flavoured Necrobarista which is a cinematic visual novel about making coffee for the undead at a tram terminal.
PAXAUS starts today and will fill all the weekend with displays and panels and general geek style fun.
