Pre-orders for Google's new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones have now started at Telstra, with the Google Home Mini a free gift with the purchase, while stocks last.
Telstra is Google's exclusive telco partner in Australia, and while it is possible to order a Pixel directly from Google, only Telstra is offering the phones locally on select Telstra plans.
Telstra already announced most of this on 5 October, but the difference is that pre-ordering via Telstra has now officially started, and naturally, both Telstra and Google are keen to ensure orders are as strong as possible.
After all, you'd want more than a pixel's worth of orders on the chart once all is said and done, and with multiple reports pegging Google as only having sold around a million Pixel and Pixel XL models to June this year, hopes are obviously high that Pixel 2 and 2 XL will far exceed those sales figures.
{loadposition alex08}It's also in stark contrast to the hundreds of millions of iPhones that Apple sells, but that is then compared with similar and even higher numbers of Androids sold, although that is when all Android sales are joined together, rather than on a single vendor-to-vendor basis where Apple sales make Google's sales look like a pixel on a sales chart.
As noted, those who pre-order from Telstra will also get the Google Home Mini intelligent speaker, but stocks are apparently limited for that promotion.
Both Pixel 2 and 2XL are Telstra Wi-Fi Calling compatible, extending basic voice call coverage over supported Wi-Fi networks to places in a home or apartment when leaving 4G coverage.
Both smartphones are available on Telstra’s new Go Mobile Swap and Go Mobile Plus plans and "customers who take up a $99 and above plan before 30 January 2018 can benefit from Telstra’s most generous data inclusions yet and get a 12-month subscription for up to three Foxtel Now Starter Packs (valued at up to $420), choosing from Pop, Drama, Docos, Kids, and Lifestyle options (minimum cost $2376 for 24 months)".
Small business customers will be able to take up the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL on "My Business Mobile and My Business Mobile Lease plans. These come with generous calling and data inclusions that help make it easier for Australian small businesses to work beyond the office".
Customers taking up a $99 and above My Business Mobile or My Business Mobile Lease plans can redeem a 12-month subscription to Microsoft Office 365 Business within the first three months (minimum cost $2376 for 24 months).
