Optus has announced “Optus Number Share” for Apple Watch Series 3 owners, and has shared the “new offers on its value-packed premium handset plans".
If you’ve been wondering about the details of Optus letting you share your existing number with your Apple Watch Series 3, then the wait is over, and it’s likely exactly what you’ve been promised in Apple’s keynote: Optus is launching “Optus Number Share which will enable customers to use the same number between their e-SIM enabled wearable device and their smartphone".
This new service “will be available from 22 September", and lets you “make and receive calls and messages from any wearable device with an embedded SIM, also known as an eSIM, without needing to have their smartphone in close proximity".
Of course, the only known eSIM device in Australia at the moment is going to be an Apple Watch Series 3, but presumably the wording of Optus’ announcement foretells the obvious: more eSIM-enabled and embedded devices are obviously on the way.

Optus also announced “limited time offers on value-packed premium handset plans which include up to 100GB per month of data, plus access to entertainment streaming on its best network yet".
Optus managing director of Marketing and Product, Ben White said, “From today, we’re offering customers our high-value premium plan for just $120 per month for 24 months, which includes the very latest handset technology with monthly handset repayments starting from $0.”
The minimum total cost over $24 months is $2880.
White continued: “With Optus’ data free entertainment streaming, you can binge-watch movies and TV shows on Netflix**, documentaries on National Geographic, or the Premier League live – without using up your monthly data allowance.”
We’re told that “new or re-contracting Optus customers who sign up to a 24-month contract on Optus’ premium My Plan Plus or My Plan Flex options will pay $120 per month for their monthly access fees (handset repayments may apply)".
These premium plans include 100GB of data, unlimited standard and national calls and text, unlimited international calls to selected countries and unlimited international roaming talk and text plus 1.5GB international roaming data in select countries.”
Naturally, there is a special offer, with these plans usually costing $160 per month, but “customers will receive $30 off per month for the life of their plan if they sign up before 26 October. That is a saving of $920 over 24 months".
Furthermore, we’re told that “all Optus My Plan Plus and My Plan Flex plans offer access to data free streaming on entertainment including mobile TV streaming from Netflix, Stan and Yes TV by Fetch, access to National Geographic content, music streaming from apps such as Spotify and iHeartRadio, and access to the Optus Sport app at no extra charge – which means sports fans can stream every match of the Premier League data free, 24/7".
Obviously, most, if not all of these entertainment services, require paid subscriptions as it already the case today, but you already knew that.
So, if you’re interesting in taking Optus up on one of its offers, be aware that “these offers are available until 26 October".
