Android Oreo coming to Sony Xperia range

Sony Mobile has revealed the list Xperia products that will be getting Android 8.0 Oreo.

One of the frustrations of being an Android owner is waiting to find out whether the newest version of the mobile operating system will become available for your particular device.

For Xperia owners, that wait is over as far as Android 8.0 Oreo is concerned.

Sony Mobile announced today that six models will be getting the upgrade in Australia.

{loadposition stephen08}They are the Xperia X, Xperia X Performance, Xperia XZ, Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XA1 and Xperia XA1 Ultra.

However, there may be some unspecified exceptions for certain combinations of model and carrier.

In other markets, there will additionally be Oreo upgrades for the Xperia X Compact, Xperia XZs, Xperia Touch and Xperia XA1 Plus.

The other uncertainty is exactly when the upgrades will arrive.

Sony Mobile Oceania managing director John Featherstone said "We are delighted to announce the availability of Android 8.0 Oreo for our Xperia owners. We've been working hard to bring this major update to as many of our devices as possible. Please stay tuned to the blog and @SonyMobileNews for all the latest as it happens."

The newly announced Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact will ship with Oreo. Although the Xperia XA1 Plus was announced at the same time, it will ship with Android 7.0 Nougat with a subsequent upgrade.
