Boston-based open source company Acquia has released software that can be used to manage multiple websites in the cloud.
Acquia Cloud Site Factory Stacks is designed to cater to multiple development teams, regions, brands and differing compliance standards.
Acquia uses the Drupal content management system to build websites for companies around the world and, as of February, had produced and powered roughly 12% of all Drupal implementations, Chris Stone, the head of engineering and chief product officer, told iTWire at the time.
As to Stacks, the company said it visualised two main use cases: hosting legacy Drupal 7 sites, while looking into a Drupal 8 version and hosting a Stack per global region eg. an EMEA Stack, a US Stack etc, so that developers in each region could control their own codebases.
{loadposition sam08}A media release from Acquia today said the new software offered greater scalability and control to multi-site management.
It pointed out that, according to Forrester Research, businesses managed an average of 268 customer-facing sites. Large businesses often had 10,000 content creators and users using their content management systems.
"Gone are the days when marketing teams can just create campaign sites without some guardrails from IT, without which brands end up with multiple content platforms, duplicate tools, and high maintenance costs," Stone was quoted as saying in today's media release.
"Today’s digital experience teams need to build a culture of creativity and automation. This means having a common process and platform to handle multi-site delivery. Site Factory delivers an approach for the most pressing challenges that IT and digital teams face today, and with Stacks, these teams achieve their goals faster."
