VIDEO: Samsung to stream Coldplay live in Virtual Reality

Want to stick on a Samsung Gear VR headset and attend a Coldplay concert so your visual cortex delivers a head full of dreams? Then your dreams have come true!

Samsung Electronics and Live Nation have announced that they will “broadcast Coldplay’s ‘A Head Full of Dreams Tour’ live in virtual reality from Chicago’s Soldier Field for the first time ever".

Australian fans with a compatible Samsung phone and Gear VR headset “will be transported to the best seats in the house to experience the band’s electrifying performance from a totally new and immersive perspective".

The live broadcast will be available on Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus through the Samsung VR service on 18 August, starting at 11:30am AEDT, which at time of publication is tomorrow.

{loadposition alex08}Samsung promises that, “from the pyrotechnics, to the laser lights and the phenomenal setlist, Gear VR users in more than 50 countries, including Australia will be able to experience the magic of Coldplay’s performance at no additional cost".

“To tune in, consumers will need a Gear VR headset with a compatible Samsung smartphone, and navigate to the Samsung VR service. A concert replay will also be available on Samsung VR for a limited time.”

This means the service is compatible with Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge and future models (each sold separately). A software update may be required, as is an Internet connection, with data, subscription and other charges separate, if applicable.

Also, looks like if you’re one of Samsung’s original VR converts, still using a Samsung Note 4, with the original Gear VR headset, you won't be able to join the party. Hopefully you have upgraded since then!

That said, Garry McGregor, sales director, IT and Mobile, Samsung Electronics Australia, said: “We’re incredibly excited to offer our Australian customers with the ability to immerse themselves in such a great event as it happens halfway around the world. Just a few years ago something like this would have been almost inconceivable, but is now available to anyone utilising our Samsung Gear VR with a compatible Samsung smartphone.”

Coldplay’s "A Head Full Of Dreams Tour,” is being produced by Live Nation, and is “the No. 5 highest grossing tour of all time, according to ticket sales data reported to Billboard Boxscore".

The tour launched in March 2016 and has already “welcomed five million people".

We’re told that “A Head Full of Dreams is Coldplay’s seventh album and the follow-up to 2014’s GRAMMY-nominated Ghost Stories.”

Here’s a sneak peek from Samsung on what to expect:
