Australian Competition and Consumer Commission chairman Rod Sims has welcomed the federal government’s reappointment of Delia Rickard as deputy chair for five years and praised her "tireless advocacy” for consumer rights.
The government announced Rickard’s reappointment on Thursday, following unanimous support from the states and territories.
“Delia has made an outstanding contribution to the work of the ACCC over the past five years, particularly in relation to consumer protection,” Sims said.
“Delia is a tireless advocate for consumer rights and leads the commission’s product safety and scam disruption work.”

“We look forward to Delia’s continued leadership in these important areas at the ACCC,” Sims said.
Rickard is a member of the ACCC’s Enforcement Committee, Adjudications Committee, Communications Committee and Compliance Committee, and is also co-chair of the ACCC’s Consumer Consultative Committee.
She was appointed as deputy chair in June 2012 for five years, bringing to the commission extensive public service experience in the area of consumer protection.
Immediately prior to her appointment to the ACCC, Rickard held a range of senior positions at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, where she led much of ASIC’s consumer protection work.
In the January 2011 Australia Day Awards, Rickard was awarded the Public Service Medal for her contribution to consumer protection and financial services.
