Nokia is back down under – Nokia 3, 5, and 6 smartphones (first look)

Cast you mind back to the 90s when it was a “Nokia” or nothing. Remember its amazing reliability, quality, and keen pricing. Then remember when Microsoft bought the Finnish phone company and finished it.

It has been reborn with a Finnish CEO Arto Nummela and about 600 enthusiasts, many formerly Nokia staff that love the brand and is bringing three models of smartphone to Australia in July.

Nummela said, “People just fell in love with the brand and what it stands for. Its new owner HMD is a startup that shares the original Nokia passion. It is the people's brand, a trusted brand, and we have to protect that.”

Nummella presented a compelling case for buying Nokia – quality (aluminum milled unibody), design (yes, it is distinctly a Nokia – gone are the garish polycarbonate Windows Phones), and it uses Pure Android. “86% of the world uses Android. We want to elevate it by close cooperation with Google only using Pure Android, we want to make it secure and we want you to have the latest Android security and features as soon as they are released – pure, secure and always up to date.”

Each phone is hewn from a single block of 6000-grade aluminum and the unibody construction is a testament to Nokia’s quality and reliability philosophy.

The first models are aimed at the volume mass market. Nummela said that Nokia would expand the range upwards as soon as it can.

These are well specified for the price and should be a significant challenger in the volume market.

All phones feature the distinctive Nokia ringtone but not the famous snake game.
