Microsoft appears to be unaware of who is using its instant messaging client Skype and on what platform, judging by an email sent to one of its users.
That user just happens to be iTWire editor-in-chief Stan Beer.
In an official email sent on Tuesday, Microsoft claimed that Beer was using Skype on Windows Phone 8, Windows Phone 8.1, Messaging app for Windows 10 Mobile, Windows RT or a TV.
If even one of those platforms had proved to be correct, this story would not have been written.
{loadposition sam08}But the fact is that Beer has not used Skype on any of those platforms.
Which makes it look like Microsoft does not really know how to track its users.
The email was sent to inform Beer that Microsoft would be retiring Skype on all those platforms.
The email added, "Recently started using Skype on another device? Great, you can ignore this email."
Once again, this shows that Skype downloads and installs need some tracking at headquarters. User data is key to making money these days but maybe someone forgot to tell Satya Nadella that.
