Users on some Lenovo forums say that two laptop models made by the company have the BIOS locked so that one cannot run anything other than the pre-installed Windows on them.
The two models are the Ideapad 710S Plus-13IKB and Miix 720.
The users on these forums say that the BIOS is locked to the RAID storage option making the installation of Linux to the SSD a no-go.
One user wrote about the Miix 720: "Initially we supposed it's only a factor of time and wait. However, after five BIOS updates are published, there's still no changes regarding RAID unlock. Even it's simply hid in advance menu just like the case of Yoga 900."
{loadposition sam08}This is not the first time that Lenovo laptops have been locked in this manner.
Last year, as iTWire reported, the company released fixes for the Yoga 900S-12ISK, the Yoga 900-13ISK2 and the Yoga 900-13ISK for BIZ so that people could install Linux on these machines.
The firmware fixes enabled choosing the SATA Controller Mode on the laptops that were set to RAID mode.
The fixes were issued after the problem with the three models gained coverage in the tech media.
