Computex, 30 May to 3 June has become the place for its manufacturers to show off the new technology for 2017. ASUS has five new notebooks and two new all-in-one desktops.
While most are technology updates to the latest Intel 7th generation Kaby Lake processor they also reflect that processors far lower thermal dynamic load (TDL) and even better power management enabling precious millimetres to be shave off the thickness and grams of weight. Add to these advances in Graphics Processors and you get smaller, faster, more powerful, lighter and better battery life.
ASUS chairman Jonney Shih, said, “The Flip S is the world’s thinnest convertible at 10.9mm thick – 20% lighter and 55% thinner than a MacBook Air. It has a 4K, 13.3”, 360° screen, Intel Core i7, 11.5-hour battery life and weighs 1.1kg.”
“Even mainstream notebooks will never be the same again after the VivoBook S,” he said referring to the notebook with Intel Core i7, NVIDIA GTX 940M GPU at specifications that appear impossible for its US$499 price.

The “edge” refers to ASUS’s nano-edge bezel which allows larger screens to fit into smaller notebooks – it is not a new concept but it is the right move – screen to body ration is a key factor.
