When told that French peasants were starving and had no bread, Marie-Therese, wife of Louis XIV, is alleged to have said "let them eat cake".
In a modern twist on this, a Fairfax Media contributor is applying similar logic to NBN connections.
The man, from what is called TechWiz Time, claims he has a "hack" to get faster NBN speeds – buy two connections and blend them.
The suggestion thus effectively boils down to, "if they can't afford bread, then let them buy cake".
{loadposition sam08}That such a ridiculous suggestion can even be mooted, when one of the chief complaints directed against NBN connections is that they are too expensive, defeats logic.
Fairfax always claims to be pursuing "quality journalism"; hence that it could even carry videos like this speaks volumes about the lack of quality control.
But then having cut staff steadily over the years, it is not surprising that quality control has gone to the dogs. Or the chicken coop, take your pick.
Of course, ISPs have already been offering such connections for the rich: blended DSL plans are available from several providers.
Apart from the cost of the connections, which would be unaffordable for your average consumers, there is also the technical aspect of combining the two which would, again, be beyond Joe Public.
Exactly who screens technology content at Fairfax is unknown. It looks very much like the inmates are running the asylum.
