Dell EMC Cloud for Microsoft Azure Stack debuts

Dell EMC Cloud for Microsoft Azure Stack is a turnkey hybrid cloud platform based on Microsoft Azure Stack.

Dell EMC - or perhaps more accurately its predecessor - shipped the first Microsoft-based hybrid cloud in 2015. It already offers Dell EMC Enterprise Hybrid Cloud (Dell EMC converged and hyper-converged infrastructure) and Dell EMC Native Hybrid Cloud (for Pivotal Cloud Foundry development).

Dell EMC Cloud for Microsoft Azure Stack, the latest introduction to the family, provides an environment that is consistent with Microsoft's Azure public cloud.

According to company officials, it provides a true hybrid cloud allowing organisations to access, create and share traditional and cloud-native application services securely in Azure and Azure Stack without sacrificing security, protection, service quality or availability.

Research conducted by IDC on behalf of Dell EMC found almost 80% of organisations with 1000 or more employees already have a hybrid cloud strategy. More than 50% already use both public and private cloud infrastructure, and nearly 30% expect to do so within the next year.

"Interoperability enables organizations to adopt new cloud solutions with minimal changes to process, tools and staff, which enhances the ability to lead and drive IT and digital transformations. Turnkey solutions, like Dell EMC Cloud for Microsoft Azure Stack, address the current challenges with private and public cloud adoption, including consistency with current tooling, access to value added services, and ongoing lifecycle assurance for the platform," said IDC group vice-president for enterprise storage, servers and infrastructure software Laura DuBois.

"Australian and New Zealand business leaders have embraced cloud adoption and many already have a hybrid cloud strategy in place," said Dell EMC ANZ director of systems engineering Danny Elmarji (pictured).

"As businesses move past the point of experimenting with the cloud, we have more customers asking how to easily move core applications between the public and private cloud. This first-of-its-kind turnkey solution allows Microsoft Azure users to continue to enjoy the benefits of the public cloud whilst being confident that valuable data is protected with Dell EMC backup and encryption. By bridging the gap between on and off-premises cloud solutions, we enable IT teams to free up time and budget so they can focus on innovation and improving customer facing applications."

"Cloud is an operating model, not a place, and adopting a hybrid model has become the clear choice," said Dell EMC senior vice-president for hybrid cloud platforms Peter Cutts.

"Making hybrid cloud platforms simple and turnkey enables businesses to rapidly develop and deploy new applications, optimise resources, control costs and deliver the best possible customer experiences."

Dell EMC's services organisation supports Dell EMC Cloud for Microsoft Azure Stack from strategic planning to ongoing support.

Dell EMC Cloud for Microsoft Azure Stack is expected to ship during the second half of calendar year 2017.
