The Windows 10 Creators Update has started roll-out in Australia, first to Surface, later third-party devices, and soon to all.
iTWire has a first look at the Windows 10 Creators update here.
The Creators update comes in three parts. First is KB4015217, the general monthly patch that includes a raft of fixes and patches – it ranges from 572-1094MB.
Next is the Privacy Experience (UPX) called Privacy Dashboard that must be installed before the Creators Update. It downloads with KB4015217 and is required to help guide users through the privacy settings and make more informed decisions.
Then you will get the Creators Update which is around 3.4 GB for the x64 version.

The Creators update is about creativity – not the actual code cutters, and iTWire will look at the update in detail soon.
The new features include:
- Cortana gets more access to system features including a guide to Windows 10 setup, music recognition, work on the lock screen, and a pick up feature.
- Game mode prioritises CPU and GPU resources and makes Xbox games on a PC very smooth and fast. It adds Beam streaming (similar to Twitch) to the Xbox app for Windows
- Picture in Picture – mini view - is a very useful tool to allow video to be shown in a small, always on top, window.
- Night Light takes the blue light from a screen after sunset and makes it easier on the eyes and is supposed to promote better sleep.
- Dynamic Lock allows the PC to be locked when you leave it if paired to an iOS, Android or Windows Phone. It can wake again with the phone or Windows Hello (requires a Hello compatible device). Windows Hello has speed up too.
- Paint 3D is a lot of fun and takes Pain to another dimension.
- Windows Ink (for touch screens) becomes ubiquitous and allows annotation, cut and paste and more. It also does basic maths.
- Edge browser improvements including setting aside tabs, e-book reader, and 4K Netflix native viewing
- Skype has mini view, translator and more.
- And my favourite – depending on hardware – full Dolby Atmos sound support
Microsoft have released a video highlighting the main Creators features and a blog goes more into the new features.
