Twitter removes usernames from tweet count

Twitter has decided not to count usernames towards the 140-character limit for tweets when a reply is sent to a single user or a group.

This has been done so users could use all the 140 characters for their replies.

The company said the username of the person being replied to would appear above the tweet text, rather than within the tweet itself.

This meant that when one was reading a tweet, the content would be immediately visible, rather than a bunch of usernames.

{loadposition sam08}Twitter said this change had been based on feedback from users, as well as its own experimentation.

The update would be rolled out to Twitter on the Web and also the iOS and Android clients.
