LG sues BLU over alleged infringement of LTE patents

LG Electronics has sued US phone manufacturer BLU for allegedly infringing on five patents that have been declared essential to the LTE standard.

The complaint was filed with the US International Trade Commission and United States District Court for the District of Delaware.

The South Korean company acted after trying, and failing over the past year, to get BLU involved in licensing discussions.

A statement said these were the first complaints LG had filed against another phone manufacturer.

{loadposition sam08}It was filed because BLU, the largest seller of unlocked smartphones in the US, had ignored all LG's attempts to discuss a license to LG's intellectual property. It was sixth overall in the market, with sales of 5.2 million smartphones.

LG said it had sent four notices to BLU in the past year about the patent issues but had not received any response.

It said it was determined to enforce its intellectual property rights.

Industry tracker TechIPM says LG Electronics holds the highest number of patents related to the LTE or LTE-A technologies in the US.
