About 20 five-member developer teams from Asia will take part in a hackathon in Kuala Lumpur over the weekend, with a team from Australia also participating.
The event, called AirVolution 2017, is being organised by the airline AirAsia, and unlike other hackathons which aim at general hacking, this aims at finding solutions that can help solve issues in its own market.
Three topics have been provided as guidance for those who plan to take part, but only solutions to one will be sought during the contest.
The three topics are:
- How do you profile AirAsia fans based on their digital social footprints to improve customer experience?
- How do you reduce guests’ waiting times at the airport, from check-in to boarding?
- How do you offer AirAsia guests the best flights and tours at lowest prices, as well as the best itineraries?
{loadposition sam08}Developers are being offered use of AirAsia's Flight API, resource booths and cloud storage and services during the event.
They will get eight minutes to speak about the solution they have developed including 30 seconds to present a live demo. There will be also a Q and A with the 10 judges.
The criteria for judging are:
- Impact: How would the project benefit the target audience?
- Creativity: Ingenious solutions and original ideas, no matter how big or small.
- Design: A well thought-out blueprint and crash proof, front-end layout and UI/UX.
- Execution: The solution should have a clear timeline and effective results from start till finish.
The winning team will get 25,000 ringgit (about A$7340), 100,000 AirAsia BIG points, and five return flights to any destination which the airline serves.
The team from Australia, named Team Dapper Labs, is led by Reuben Wade Bond, chief executive and an engineer at Tallogre. The others in the team are Artem
Nikolayevsky, Irdat Ikhwan Rais, Sumeet Ekbote and Aaron Russell Bond.
The team has previously attended other hacking contests such as Microsoft More Computing, Telstra Cloud, Melbourne datathon and Victoria GovHack.
