It's official: Apple sends invites for iPhone 7 on 7 September

It’s lucky sevens for the next iPhone, expected to be the iPhone 7, and an expected new Apple Watch 2 with launch date on 7 September.

Apple news site AppleInsider has published the news that the official Apple invitations saying ‘See you on the 7th’ have finally been sent out to the lucky global media invited to the event, and Apple’s other invited attendees. Apple's September 2016 live keynote preview page is also now live.

My invite got lost in the mail, but I'll be watching the keynote live at 10am in the same state and country that it's happening for the first time, as I'll be visiting the CTIA Super Mobility 2016 exhibition in Las Vegas from 7 to 9 September. The iPhone 7 launch is sure to dominate the news on the day, while enhancing the CTIA show because of many of the wireless technologies being showcased at the CTIA event that the new iPhones and most devices today will be able to work with. .

So, while there’s no official word that the next iPhone will be called the iPhone 7, that’s what everyone expects, so we’ll just have to see if Apple yet again zags when everyone was sure it would zig.

{loadposition alex08}All the rumours say the iPhone 7 will look similar to the iPhone 6s and 6, except there’ll be no 3.5mm headphone port, with Bluetooth, a special new form of Apple audio wireless and wired lightning port headphones (or lightning to 3.5mm port adapter) to get audio out of your phone to your ears without using the on-board speakers.

The iPhone 7 range is said to be waterproof, is said to have wireless charging, and will reportedly have force touch feedback on the button simulating a click rather than being clickable, helping make the iPhone 7 attain its supposed waterproof rating.

The iPhone 7 Plus model is expected to have two cameras so widescreen photos and videos can be effortlessly captured, with images of the iPhone 7 Plus only also have three charging dots which could be used for Apple’s battery-free keyboard cases or other input reasons.

The A10 processor is due to arrive, and is set to blow Qualcomm’s no longer brand new 820 Snapdragon processor out of the water.

A new black model is rumoured to be due, and potentially a blue model.

It’s the iPhone 8 in 2017 — said to be going straight to 8 rather than 7s thanks to the radical new design where the home button will be a force touch area under the glass display, rather than a separate physical button as we have now.

Time will tell how accurate those predictions are.

As per usual, the event will be held at 10am in San Francisco, reportedly at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, which is Thursday 8 September 3am for Australians.

A total of 3GB of RAM is expected to be included this time for the iPhone 7 Plus, up from the current 2GB of RAM used in the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, but the iPhone 7 will still only have 2GB RAM.

Capacities up to 256GB are expected too, given those capacities are available for the excellent iPad Pro models in both 9.7 and 12.9-inch sizes.

The Apple Watch 2 is also expected to launch with GPS and a 35% stronger battery on the 42mm model of the new Apple Watch 2 model, while watchOS 3.0 will presumably be spectacular and super fast on the new Apple Watches 2 models, too.

Pre-sales are expected to start on 9 September for release a week or two after that.

New Macs are reportedly being relegated to an October or November event, with the MacBook Pro expected to get a USB-C port, fingerprint Touch ID and a new OLED touchscreen where the F-keys currently are above the numbers keys on any Mac keyboard.

The event also means that iOS 10 and macOS Sierra are very close to going live, too, with iOS 10 by itself a fantastic upgrade that will be made even better by an A10 processor and whatever other new hardware additions and capabilities that will only be possible on the very latest iPhone 7 models.

Whether there will be any surprises such as a VR and AR headset, an iPad Mini Pro 7.9-inch, or the one more thing of the invention of teleportation or a warp drive is yet to be seen, but Apple is certainly getting ready to rock, so cool and unexpected surprises are always welcome.

More information as it leaks and we get it!
