Back-up and disaster recovery (DR) specialist Veeam is preparing to extend to Australia its $200 million incentive programme aimed at getting customers to switch from on-premises DR to its cloud service.
Veeam is already offering its existing North American customers $1000 in credits to try its cloud DR service.
The scheme is being extended to other countries and will come to Australia in early April, global cloud group vice-president Paul Mattes told iTWire.
"(The year) 2017 is a time when we're looking to globalise the cloud business."
{loadposition stephen08}Veeam has about 500 service provider partners in Australia and New Zealand that offer a variety of solutions to suit different customers, he added.
There is "tremendous potential" for Veeam and its partners in this region as ANZ is such a big user of the cloud.
The economics of cloud "make all the sense in the world" as there's no need to invest in on-premises equipment.
Like insurance, cloud DR is "an investment that's asymmetric in its return" in that a modest outlay provides for quick and easy recovery when needed, Mattes said.
Asked about performance, Mattes said Veeam's cloud products include WAN acceleration for greater throughput, and virtual machines could be restored from the cloud "in minutes".
"The market is clearly tilting in this direction (towards cloud)" and Veeam is working to capitalise on that trend, he said, foreshadowing announcements to be made at the company's annual conference in May.
