D-Link launches Homekit-enabled camera

Networking company D-Link has launched the first of its Omna family of Apple HomeKit-enabled devices, the new Omna 180 Cam HD.

The Omna 180 Cam HD allows monitoring of a home. It includes end-to-end encryption and authentication between the camera and an iPhone or iPad.

Controlling the camera when away from home requires an Apple TV (4th generation or later) with tvOS 10.1 or later or iPad with iOS 10.1 or later.

Users will be notified when activity is detected, with a notification on the lock screen, delivered using the Apple Home app, showing a live feed from the camera.

{loadposition sam08}The Omna can also be accessed remotely.

omna bigD-Link ANZ managing director Graeme Reardon said: "Omna is the first in our range of connected home devices that uses all of D-Link’s very latest technological advancements and features.

"Being the first to launch an Apple HomeKit-enabled camera makes this product and those to follow even more exciting for consumers."

Key features:

Apple HomeKit-enabled: The camera can be set up in seconds and only needs to scan the HomeKit accessory code.

180-degree field of view: Most cameras offer a 130-degree lens, while D-Link’s 180-degree solutions and de-warping technology allow users to see everything.

Dynamic video streaming: Video bitrate adjusts to ensure optimal performance given the available bandwidth.

Two-way audio: The user can listen and speak using the camera’s built-in microphone and speaker.

Night vision: The user can see up to five meters in complete darkness with infra-red night vision.

Motion detection: Triggers alerts and automatic video-clip recording.

Local recording: Video clips triggered by motion detection can be recorded directly to a microSD2 card up to 128GB and played back remotely.

The camera is available on apple.com.au and apple.co.nz. The company will launch it in Apple's Australia stores later in February.
