The Information Difference is an analyst firm focusing on master data management (MDM). Its Big Data Warehouse Landscape is the most comprehensive listing of big data warehouses and the key players.
Its Q4, 2106 report lists 25 key players and the top six, Teradata, IBM, Oracle, SAS, Microsoft and Greenplum (Dell) all offer different takes on data warehousing.
While the concept of data warehousing has been around since the late 80s the needs have changed from transaction processing to analytics. Another challenge has been to break down the silos between various transaction systems such as ERP, CRM, and supply chain. Data such as customer, product, and material typically appeared in multiple systems and were prone to duplication.
Data warehouses must deal with ever-increasing data volumes. In 2003 the largest data warehouse in the world was 30 TB in size - there are many examples now of petabyte-sized data warehouses. Typical data growth rates of 20-50% annually are attributed to newer data sources, such as web traffic, sensor data, and telephone call data, much of which can be huge in volume.

Analytics is our passion and we are laser focused on aggressively delivering technology innovations that enable our customers to drive extraordinary business outcomes.
