Macquarie completes Canberra data centre expansion

Macquarie Telecom has completed a 50% expansion of its Canberra government data centre - Intellicentre 4 –bunker – to cope with what it says is a strong uptake of services since the centre was launched three years ago.

Macquarie’s Telecom managing director government Aidan Tudehope says the expansion will allow Macquarie Telecom customers to bring more services into the Canberra data centre “as momentum continues to build upon the Federal Government’s Cloud first policy for planned new and renewed ICT investments by agencies”.

“Our Canberra data centre is purpose built to meet the security needs of Federal Government Customers providing them a secure environment to host data and deploy cloud services. The Government’s need for security has never been higher, as was highlighted in review of the eCensus failure last year.

“There is a growing realisation that transition to cloud and ‘baked in’ security can and should go, hand in hand – in fact, the right cloud solution can be much more secure than legacy government systems.”

{loadposition peter}"The expansion of our Data Centre for Federal agencies, will serve these immediate and future needs of our Government customers. Macquarie Telecom has made a deliberate decision to keep our data centres on Australian soil to keep all sensitive data within the country and completely under the Australian jurisdiction.

“We take pride in being local, continuously investing in onshore call centres and support engineers, to provide unparalleled customer service.”

Macquarie says the data centre expansion includes:

•    New purpose built secure data halls

•    Environmentally friendly chilled water cooling systems taking advantage of the cooler Canberra climate

•    Rack-power resiliency

•    Diesel generator backup

•    Monitoring around the clock for power and plant systems

•    Direct connection to ICON fibre network.
