Ascender picks up NGA payroll business

Payroll specialist Ascender has acquired the Australia and New Zealand business of NGA Human Resources.

According to Ascender, its acquisition of HGA Human Resources local operation makes it the market leader in HR and payroll software and services in ANZ and the Asia-Pacific region. The combined entity has more than 3,000 clients with a total of more than 1.7 million employees.

The acquisition is part of a strategic partnership that will provide continued service to local NGA customers using the company's global delivery centres. The two companies will together provide ANZ payroll services to NGA's global clients.

Ascender takes on 200 NGA staff, the Preceda and PS Enterprise HCM systems, and The Association for Payroll Specialists (TAPS; which will continue to operate as an independent association serving 4,000 payroll professional members).

"This is an exciting opportunity which will allow us to claim the top spot in Australia and New Zealand, building on Ascender's existing market-leading position in Asia," she said.

"This transaction provides continuity and innovation to clients, and expanded career development opportunities to employees. Our commitment to client satisfaction, technology innovation, compliance and flawless HR and payroll service delivery is unmatched in Australia and New Zealand."

Ascender chairman and Potentia managing director Andrew Gray welcomed Maki-Hokkonen, saying "Marjukka's 15 years' leadership experience in the industry along with her strong track record and relentless focus on customer satisfaction mean this is exciting news for our clients, partners and employees. We have no doubt she is going to be an exceptional leader through Ascender's next stage of growth."

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
