While mainly affecting the U.S. and Canada, HP has extended its global battery recall initiated in June 2016 from 41,000 batteries to add 101,000 additional notebook batteries.
The batteries are black, and may be in HP, Compaq, ProBook, Envy, Compaq Presario, and Pavilion laptops sold worldwide from March 2013 through October 2016, and/or were sold as accessories or spares, or provided as replacements through Support. The battery will have on the bar codes affixed to the back either 6BZLU, 6CGFK, 6CGFQ, 6CZMB, 6DEMA, 6DEMH, 6DGAL or 6EBVA.
These batteries have the potential to overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to customers. Customers should cease use of affected batteries immediately but may continue to use the notebook without the battery installed, by connecting the notebook to external power
“It is essential to recheck your battery, even if you did so previously and were informed that it was not affected,” stated the notification. Users can download software from HP's recall website to check if their battery qualifies for a recall. HP will provide a free replacement and arrange for safe transport and disposal of the old one.
